Every straight wall and level floor starts before the first board goes up — with the ground cleared, stripped, leveled, and graded right. Bad site prep shows up later as drainage problems, settling, and cracked slabs. Good site prep shows up as nothing at all, which is exactly the point.

How it works

Walk the site
Ideally with your plan or survey stakes in the ground. I look at access, soil, drainage, and what's in the way. Free.

Clear and strip
Vegetation and organics come off first — this is the step people skip and regret.
- 03
Cut the pad
The building area gets leveled and brought to grade, gravel brought in by the trailer load where the plan calls for it.
- 04
Finish the grade
Final grading around the footprint so water sheds away from day one.
I work from your plans and your stakes — you tell me where the building goes and how high the pad sits, and I make the ground match. If you're still in the planning stage, call anyway: I can tell you what the ground will need before you finalize anything.
FAQ
Straight answers
What does site prep actually include?
Clearing the build area, stripping topsoil and organics, leveling the footprint, bringing in gravel for the pad, and final grading for drainage. The exact scope depends on your plans and the site — I'll scope it when I walk it.
Do you strip topsoil before building the pad?
Yes, and you want me to. Building on unstripped organics is asking for settling later. The stripped material gets hauled off or stockpiled on site if you want it for landscaping later.
Can you build a pad for my shop or garage?
Yes — that's bread-and-butter work. Give me the dimensions and the finished height from your plans, and I'll cut it level, bring in gravel, and compact it.
How far in advance should I book site prep?
As early as you've got plans and a timeline. Small pads can often happen within a couple of weeks; bigger multi-stage prep needs more lead time. Call early — the worst case is we pick a date.
Do I need permits or a survey first?
Permits are between you and your municipality — I'm the dirt guy, not the paperwork guy. That said, I strongly prefer working from survey stakes or a site plan so the pad goes exactly where it's supposed to. If you don't have a survey yet, get one before we start cutting.
My lot is sloped. Can you still prep it?
Usually yes — sloped lots just need more cut-and-fill to get a level pad, and retaining may be needed on the edges (I build retaining and rock walls too). I'll be straight with you about what's involved when I see the site.
